Dr Bassem Dawood underwent training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Frankston Hospital, the Austin Hospital and the Northern Hospital to attain the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
He underwent specialised training in bronchoscopic and minimally invasive thoracic procedures and is one of the few specialists in Melbourne who is proficient in performing endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) sampling of suspicious lung lesions and lymph nodes.
Dr Dawood also specialises in pleural diseases and runs the pleural service at the Northern Hospital. He is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS). He is also an associate fellow at the Institute of Breathing and Sleep (IBAS).
Dr. Dawood is fluent in both English and Arabic.
He also has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of complex sleep disorders.
His major sub-speciality interests are in the early detection and surveillance of lung cancer.
