Dr. Felix Sim is a specialist Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon managing problems involving the face, neck and jaws. These include removal of third molars (wisdom teeth), complex extractions, orthodontic exposure of teeth, placement of dental and zygomatic implants, grafting procedures, orthognathic surgery and management of oral pathology and facial trauma. Dr Sim also sub-specialises in oral cancer and reconstructive surgery of the jaws using microvascular free tissue transfer.
Dr Sim obtained his undergraduate dental qualification at the University of Sydney and medical degree at the University of Melbourne. He completed his specialist training in 2015, leading to the specialist qualification FRACDS(OMS). Following completion of his specialty training, Dr Sim was selected to a two-year highly competitive sub-specialty training in head & neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Head and Neck Institute in Portland, Oregon, USA. He is the only fellowship trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Victoria, performing microvascular reconstruction of the jaws. Using computer modelling and manufacturing, Dr Sim was part of a team of surgeons at Royal
Melbourne Hospital who performed a cutting-edge reconstructive jaw surgery using a section of the fibula bone. The fibula bone was implanted with dental implants and teeth, and placed on the day of surgery. This was the first time this operation was ever performed in Victoria.
Felix has public hospital appointments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Geelong Hospital as part of the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Units.
Felix places great importance on being able to help patients navigate worries associated with potential surgical treatment and communicates with an empathetic manner.
