A/Prof Nicholas Smith is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in surgery of the hand and upper limb. He has a particular interest in hand and wrist problems in both adults and children, including congenital hand malformations and neonatal brachial plexus palsy.
A/Prof Smith graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 1993 and completed orthopaedic training in Sydney. He pursued extensive post fellowship training in Sydney and then undertook the International Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Dallas, USA.
He began his practice as wrist surgeon in Sydney in 2003, at the Children’s Hospital Westmead and in private practice at Specialty Orthopaedics. He joined the hand unit at Macquarie University Hospital in 2010.
He has contributed to the training of many orthopaedic and hand surgery trainees, acting as the training representative for the Children’s Hospital Westmead from 2004 until 2012 and the Chairman of the Northside Board of Studies for the Australian Orthopaedic Association from 2009 until 2012.
