Dr Peter Illes

Peter graduated at the University of Witwatersrand in 1980 and specialised in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Cape Town at the famous Groote Schuur Hospital. He obtained the FCP (SA) specialist qualifications in 1992. He underwent further training at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne as senior registrar to Prof RWC Campbell who was the president elect of the British Heart Foundation where he gained further experience in interventional procedures and CIED implantation.

Peter is an interventional cardiologist with a specific interest in devices for heart failure. He pioneered the use of CRT in Australia having performed one of the first biventricular pacemaker implants for heart failure in Australia. He has been principle investigator in number of landmark CIED trials and has been involved in a number of first in man device trials in Australia.

He is also a proctor for a number of device companies and runs courses for the Asia Pacific region for new device technologies and biventricular device implantation. He is the Director of Cardiac Devices at the Northern Beaches Hospital and part of the on call interventional team for acute coronary syndromes at the Northern Beaches Hospital.
