Associate Professor Siven Seevanayagam is a senior consultant cardiac & thoracic surgeon.
Having graduated with honours from Monash University Medical School in 1990, he undertook his residency at the Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre and then went onto undertake advanced training in General Surgery, followed by advanced training in Cardiothoracic Surgery and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Immediately upon completion of his advanced training in Cardiothoracic Surgery, he was invited to join the Departments of Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at Austin Health - the only surgeon to have had the distinction of being appointed to both departments. He performs all types of adult cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. His major research interest is in Health Informatics and the use of Analytic techniques in linked large datasets in the healthcare sector.
A/Prof Siven Seevanayagam was appointed as the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University Hospital Geelong in 2016 and tasked with guiding the unit to become the pre-eminent tertiary referral cardiothoracic service for the Geelong, Greater Geelong and the entire South West Region of Victoria as envisaged in the statewide Victorian Cardiac Services Plan. He continues to maintain his senior consultant cardiac and thoracic surgery appointments at Austin Health in Melbourne.
