Dr William Wilson

Dr Wilson is a cardiologist specialising in interventional cardiology (coronary and structural) and adult congenital heart disease. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999 and completed advanced training in cardiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Wilson completed three cardiology fellowships in Melbourne, Edinburgh and Toronto respectively and undertook two years of training in interventional cardiology and adult congenital heart disease at the Royal Melbourne Hospital prior to working overseas for four years.

Focussing on complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for his fellowship at the Edinburgh Heart Centre, Scotland, Dr Wilson subsequently completed a two-year clinical and interventional adult congenital heart disease fellowship at the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults.

Undertaking a PhD through the University of Melbourne, which centres on congenital heart disease, particularly, outcomes of patients with a systemic right ventricle and mechanisms for ventricular failure, Dr Wilson also created and manages a multi-centre database in the United Kingdom for CTO PCI procedures.

Dr Wilson is actively involved in teaching of medical students, junior doctors and physician trainees and co-ordinates the cardiology teaching program for the FRACP lecture series. Dr Wilson currently holds a public appointment as a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
