Mr Al-Habbal started his basic surgical training in one of the busiest trauma centres in Iraq, after which he moved to the UAE and then the UK where he obtained membership with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MRCSI).
He moved to Australia to pursue his advanced surgical training through Austin Health and obtained Fellowship of the Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), followed by a fellowship year in the acute surgical unit at Eastern Health and a further three years of subspecialty training in upper gastrointestinal tract surgery and interventional endoscopy.
Through his ANZGOSA training, he rotated through a number of busy cancer centres in Western Australia and Victoria. He recently became an Associate Fellow for the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
